Our Team

Ed Layton - Director

Ed is a Chartered Building Surveyor specialising in Dilapidations and Party Wall Matters.

Having spent over 15 years working for a major UK consultant, Ed set up Thames Valley Surveying in 2013 realising an ambition to create a local practice of property and construction consultants with capacity to offer a nationwide service.

When Ed isn’t working he can usually be found doing a park run, or out in his 1970’s Triumph Spitfire.

Oliver Wilson - Director

Oliver is a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 15 years’ experience. 

Oliver specialises in the Project Management of commercial refurbishments along with providing dilapidations advice and due diligence surveys to both landlords and tenants.

Outside of work Oliver is busy with his family and coaches his daughters’ local football team.

John Wren - Director

John is a Chartered Building Surveyor with over 15 years’ experience. 

John has a wide range of experience including defects analysis, building surveys, dilapidations, design, project management and contract administration.

Ling Lee - Architect

Ling is a qualified architect with experience working on projects across all stages from initial design, planning, tendering to construction. 

When Ling is not in the office, she enjoys sketching and crocheting. 

Caroline Ward - Senior Associate

Caroline is a Chartered Building surveyor and has been working in the Thames Valley for over twenty years. 

Caroline’s main focus is on design, contract administration and project management but also carries out defects diagnosis inspections.

Outside of work Caroline enjoys gardening and yoga.

Jess Toms - Office Manager

Jess is the TVS office manager and is responsible for keeping daily operations running efficiently. She graduated from Swansea University with a degree in Business Studies.

Known for her reliability and attention to detail, Jess plays a key part in supporting the wider team.

Outside of work, Jess’ life focuses around her family. She can often be found on the side of a football pitch, enthusiastically supporting from the sidelines.

Marina Szabady - Associate

Marina is a Chartered Building Surveyor who has worked for several surveying practices and has a wealth of experience.

When Marina isn’t at work she is usually away camping with her family, or in the gym.

Jack Strickland - Senior Building Surveyor

Jack graduated from Portsmouth University with a degree in Property Development.

Jack is an experienced Building Surveyor with almost 10 years in the industry and is closely involved in the local Constructing Excellence Group.

Jack is local to Reading and knows our local area very well, outside work Jack enjoys live music and is currently planning the renovation of his Victorian property.

Mary Utley - Senior Building Surveyor

Mary graduated from Reading University with a degree in Building Surveying. Having spent the past couple of years working for a large consultancy in London, Mary has recently returned to her roots and joined the team at Thames Valley Surveying.

Outside the office Mary can be found gardening, retrofitting her Victorian home and running around after her young family.

Paul Ansell - Consultant Architectural Designer

Paul is an experienced Architectural Designer who works with us to deliver projects.

His specialty is the design of buildings in the education sector.
